So we're approaching the most creative holiday of the year in terms of party potential.
Not all cultures seem to celebrate Hallowe'en the same way, but I've always loved the costumed bacchanalia side of the season. People are permitted to bust out a secret side, and it often makes for fascinating conversational icebreakers if you meet somebody who's really put thought into their costume. Seeking inspiration and sifting ideas, I've been searching for a suitable something. Not sure if all of these would be appropriate, but they made me laugh. From the Politically Incorrect department: From Kentucky: For those friends who act like a big dick/pussy: Potentially one of the best animal costumes (needs the right dog): My favourite muppet: Least politically correct costume: If I were 4 feet tall, I might consider: How about you? Got your wardrobe figured? Seen any gems? |

But I wouldn't necessarily suggest:
And I think Osama costumes will still get you a beating in some places. |

I should qualify things and suggest that solo costumes should be considered in a different category than group attire that depends to a degree on the synergy.
'Couples' costume parties have some appeal where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts (I've seen broken heart and tube of glue done well), and there are some suits that require a second half to complete the joke. Saw a good Hans & Franz last year, and a whole gang done up in blue paint and tighty whiteys as smurfs (normally a recipe for derision, but well executed). |

You should hit up Retro Crush they have a handful of articles about the best and worst halloween costumes.
the worst A friend of mine had a pretty interesting idea. He's going to be his mom for halloween, and he's going to carry around a little baby that's going to be him. I thought it was pretty creative. The idea I had for him was to build a small model city on a piece of construction board, strap it to your feet and walk around, when people ask "what are you?" you bellow "I'm fucking enormous!" |

A party I once went to had an amazingly weird costume, although essentially very simple. It was basically generic space man suit but the cool part was his head.
The guy took a large flexible plastic Fresnel lens (those magnifying sheets used to make TV screens seem bigger, especially in the 1970's/1980's) and wrapped it into a cylinder and glued it together. He fit a collar and sort of cap on top with an interior light. Weird thing is this had the effect of completely shrinking his head to about half as large or smaller, and you could see this effect 360 degrees. The overhead interior lighting made it more grotesque. Extremely bizarre effect. I'm not sure if he had curved it the opposite way if it would enlarge his head or not. He also use a voice pitch modulator to great effect. Yes, it had a straw hole for beer, naturally. I can't find huge fresnel sheets anywhere though. "Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding." - Albert Einstein |

Unless you're competing for the 'cheapest crap in lieu of originality' costume award... Among the best costumes I've seen in recent years, the standout was a two-parter. The attractive woman in question spent half the night dressed as a caterpillar. Halfway through the evening, she visited the ladies room and emerged as a butterfly. Double points for creativity. |

I liked the guys last year who went as Siegfried and Roy, with one guy dragging around a tiger on his leg with blood. (Forget which of the two got bit.)
Escher I've been waiting for a true sub-PowerBook for more than 10 years. The 11-inch MacBook Air finally delivers on all counts! It beats the hell out of both my PowerBook 2400c and my 12-inch PowerBook G4 -- no contest whatsoever. |

PS - WTF is up with all these retarded, made-for-video movies from Disney where bodily noises are now accepted as quality humor? I saw an ad the other day where no less than three animals were shown to belch. Walt is rolling in his fekking crypt, I fear. Disney has become such a turd pile of an entertainment company; it's really pathetic how badly they've de-volved. Eisner deserves to be removed... then shot. At close range. ...into the light of a dark black night. |

Resurrected in honour of our new theme.
Sorry if some of the original links are now 404 or leechproofed... can't edit 'em anymore. While I'd normally never be caught dead drinking a box'o'wine, it does present a novel costume value... Classic costumes, continued... discussions of couple costumes... Quote:
for 'team' or couple costumes, I liked this google result... boxes, fake arms, and done. and if you're a m+f act, or a med student, you might consider: Last edited by curiousuburb : 2005-10-24 at 14:39. |

I think I mentioned this before, but... oh well.
A few years ago, I went to a Halloween party thrown by fighter pilots for all their fighter pilot friends. (The guy I was dating was one of those giving the party.) They had a metal coffin-liner in the living room filled with ice and beer. The most 'noticeable' costume was a guy who came dressed as a giant penis. He was very tall. BUT his costume was a bit distorted, and *I* thought he was a giant mushroom. I kept wondering, "Now, why would he come dressed as a giant mushroom?" Fortunately, I kept my thoughts to myself and didn't ask any stupid questions. After a few minutes of looking at his costume - from different angles ( ) - it *finally* dawned on me what it was. (Okay, shut up! ) To be fair, I *still* say it looked more like a giant mushroom. K, I'm outta here. |

Yep. Escher had one post at the beginning of last month and only one other this year (in LoCash's thread ) and johnq hasn't posted in 3 months... If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong. |

This year I've found myself sporting a beard for Hallow's Eve (believe me, completely unintentional)...and now I'm very much much considering going as the Marquis de Sade. If I can get my lover to go as Rose...well, that'd be all the better.
So it goes. |

Anything else you'd like to know? If you'd seen the costume, you'd have thought it was a mushroom too. Honest! And actually, if it hadn't been a 'fighter pilot' party, I might to this very day think it was a mushroom. But with pilots... no way. Not in a million years. |

My vote for the best so far is the couple going as a penis and pussy. The colors are great. Very creative.

The cardboard robots ROCK.
I went as a robot once -- spray painted everything silver, found some extra clothes dryer flex tube for arms, and put a few Christmas lights in the chest. Obviously, my parents helped a lot. I'm going to look for extra boxes now. |
