Hey all

I thought i'd start a thread about music, i'm looking for something new that's different to the usual stuff I listen to.

It can be from any genre, any year, band or artist, you get the idea. The more obscure the better

Thanks.

My humble list as a indie-electronic, post rock, etc, listener.

Starting with better-known bands first:

Muse -- Excellent hard alternative/experimental band with a polished presentation. Tons of fans.
Arcade Fire -- Both albums are excellent, these guys really grow on you.
Radiohead -- Check out their new album if you haven't already.
Zero 7 -- Completely chill music great for ambiance or otherwise. Simple Things is the album to get.
Bloc Party -- Upcoming band who recently made the mainstream jump. Good alternative music.

Lesser-known

Explosions in the Sky -- Lyric-less songs combining all sorts of instruments and soundscapes.
Dntel -- Offshoot project of The Postal Service and Death Cab, heavily electronic
Hot Chip -- Electro-blip music, more upbeat and dance-able.
People in Planes -- More traditional alternative band with some good songs.
Röyksopp -- Electronic band with some really catchy songs
Tokyo Police Club -- Upcoming indie band that will go a long ways. Lots of songs on iTunes.
Thom Yorke -- While he is the lead singer for Radiohead his solo album, the Eraser, is excellent as well.

I can't stop listening to "All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem. I'm trying to decide whether I like the original version or Franz Ferdinand's cover better. (You can find videos for both on YouTube.)

Also currently stuck in my head: "Heart in a Cage" by the Strokes, and "Androgyny" by Garbage. I know, I know...it's like 2001 all over again.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

Ya, Dntel is wonderful stuff. In a similar vein, Vitaminsforyou could be worth a listen.

I'm still quite taken by the Scandinavian electronic artist/album Ebb: Loona. Finally, the down-tempo groove of band/album Bexar Bexar: Haralambos could be worthy, as well.

I've been listening to Silversun Pickups obsessively recently. They're the inspiration for my current custom user title. (Along with murbot's warped mind)

I also like World Leader Pretend's list.

What's the "usual stuff" you listen to? I bet it doesn't include Keziah Jones!

"I play my guitar like a bass. I hit the wood rhythmically so the guitar also becomes a percussion instrument. That requires a lot of energy and sweat. And sometimes a person can smell that…"

Amazing guy who makes amazing Afro-funk, with a touch of internationalism in the lyrics.

… engrossed in such factional acts as dreaming different dreams.
