If you build it they will come.

The rink pending adding an ice surface,is complete. Only took 4 months too

Pictures work, but you really need to head out there in the game to see it. I know some of you already have.

From the skyway terminus tower:

Minecart and skyway access on the western shore:

Southern entrance:

Entrance to the restaurant, skellie trap, locker rooms, and the ice surface.

Restaurant and trap:

Home locker room:

Finally the rink (from the top level):

From the playing surface:

Love it, Ely! I've been waiting to come see it until you had finished. Looks like I can come check it out now. I've got my own rink to build, but that's one of the "down the road" projects. Not sure when that will be. Thinking around the time of the new NHL season if work doesn't keep getting in the way of me building things.

You really need to see it in person. It looks awesome. With the ice down it is a true work of art. Really worth the trip even if you had to walk.

I haven't been on much recently, but fear not, for it isn't because i don't love minecraft, but rather I love it too much. Behold the wonders of terrain generation for the skyranch:

image001 by billybobsky, on Flickr

Thats right, I am using excel to visualize something that would be better done using the very code I heavily modified to get this beauty. Never mind that. Also: this terrain wasn't exactly satisfactory, so i have recommitted the code to generating a new one... Unfortunately as everything is based upon random number generators and the entire perlin noise process takes some time, and i have to toss out the vast majority of the terrains because they don't match the sole filtering criteria (have a height of one at the opening), it takes about 15 minutes per evaluation. Again, never mind all that... Soon I will have a terrain to befit the skyranch...

Excel?????? Seriously?
I'd like to audit this class.

well, the perlin noise code is in numpy (a python extension)... although there is nothing preventing excel from being used for this purpose, besides the obvious.

It looks rather...mountainous, for a "ranch."

Also, you're a crazy person. Crazy! But you already knew that.

It's a perspective issue: the max height of the mountain is only 23, which is nothing compared to the scale of the ranch...

Another project off the list:

Finished the Dragon-ship (longship) for SodHaus in Bridgeport.

So with that I have finished the three major projects I started since joining in January:
1) Stone's Rink of Pain
2) SodHaus complex (MC L'Anse Aux Meadows)
3) Northeast skyways from Old Towne to now Sachmo's outpost

With that I'm forcing myself to take some time off to work on other life projects that I've been selfishly putting off. I'll be around now and then, but no starting the major projects I've previously indicated for around the rink and the park in the NE. I'll still be checking this subforum daily.

I know that angle...

But seriously, that's awesome. I can't think of anything else I'd rather have in front of the Skycastle

Nice work!! Didn't even know this was happening.

Speaking of ships... it seems that a minor deity has constructed a flying pirate ship just off the larboard bow of my beach house.... take a look....

Suggestion: would be a lot more challenging if the "caution grid" was instead made of blue wool to better camouflage the proper targets.

Even better: make the whole bottom covered in water, but only one block deep except in one 2x2 area. Line the bottom of the pool with blue wool.

Oh, and: every time you're down there, move the 2x2 area. Make a note for your own personal use.

Hmm. Do burning arrows light wool?

If so, install a hidden dispenser behind a falling lava block to shoot burning arrows onto the jump-off platform. Which is made of wool.

Install a sign that says "Think fast". Just in front of that, put a pressure plate that triggers the dispenser.

EDIT: Apparently not. Maybe a 1x1x1 lava pit near the wool but behind a steel door would do it with the random fireballs?

Burning arrows don't ignite any blocks, unfortunately.

Next up: Scenery!

I'm planning on building smaller stuff for a while so that'll be perfect. Build it, take it down again. Meanwhile, I'm intending to visit other people's stuff more.
