I've seen people have generated text lists of their entire iTunes library in the past, but when I export the library as a .txt file it is mostly a garbled mess of poorly formatted directory information. Is there anyway I can easily create a nice, easily readable list?

Easy.

Toggle off all the View Options so it only shows the name.
Select all.
Copy.
Paste into a text document.

Switch on additional columns for more information and for better sorting. The separate columns are tab delimited in the text.

ha! didn't even cross my mind to just copy paste, you'd think that with the ability to export the library into a text format there'd also be a way to export library into a USEFUL text format.

edit: well, this is definitely way better than before, but what are some more ways to make it an even cleaner list, better formatted and such, cause as of now, while it's cleaner in terms of information, the formatting still makes it fairly difficult to negotiate.

you could also export the library as an .xml file through the file menu.

Yea, I tinkered with that but it didn't seem to do much, maybe I just don't know how to utilize THE AWESOME POWAR OF .XML!!?

well... I just copy and pasted into an excel file and it will populate the appropriate cells...

Easy for throwing it up onto the internet for others to peruse...
