This question will show how stupid I am but. . .
. . .I got my Quad today with standard 512 MB memory (2 x 256). I have 4 GB additional memeory (4 x 1). I know I need to install them in pairs, but can you mix pairs? That is, I have 8 slots in the Quad. Can 2 be used for the 256 sticks and 4 for the 1 GB sticks? Or do I pitch the 256's? Also, assuming the answer is YES, does it make any difference if the 256 or the 1 GB sticks are in the first bank? (I assume I need to put them in consecutive order--no spaces.) Just want to be correct before I fire this thing on---would hate to have waited two months and then fry the motherboard. That would be bad. |

You don't need to toss the 256 gb ram sticks... just pair everything...

No way to benchmark as I installed it new right out of the new Quad box. I am currently transferring 246 GBs in installation from my PB 17". I will run some test probably tomorrow night. I am especially interested to see how it does running VPC 7 in background hooked to my corporate LAN running outlook in VPN. Most threads have been disappointing on speed.
