I'm looking for a similar setup but am also very used to the Mac Pro. I was looking at switchboxes but am wondering now also about graphics cards. I have the stock ATI card but is it possible then to add the 8800GT card that Apple offers to this computer and use both cards? My idea would be to use the two most important monitors I have to the 8800GT and then any additional needed screens would be added to the ATI. Would this work? If I get a 8800GT what model do I have to get or do I have to get a specific brand to make sure it's compatible with my Mac Pro?
Obviously I'd like to save money so is there a specific brand or place online I should look at to get a 512GB 8800 GT Card? Once I get it does it matter which slots I use to install the cards?

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to use a retail 8800 GT in a Mac Pro, but to answer the other question you *should* be able to use both the stock 2600 XT and the Apple branded 8800 GT at the same time.

If you have the new Mac Pro, then you can use an Apple 8800GT.
You cannot use 8800GTs intended for PCs.
You cannot use the Apple 8800GT in the older (bought prior to tuesday the 8th of January) Mac Pro for some reason. This may possibly be fixed at some point.

That would be really dumb... the Mac Pro has no SLi or Crossfire technology, so why get such a powerful card to power a 2nd screen...

I realize there is no SLI or crossfire but it would be used to power the two primary screens where I'd need the power the most.
It is unfortunate that i need the get the Apple branded card since it costs so much more. It probably is a better solution than a splitter though and they aren't cheap either. I will look at 3rd party stores and maybe I can get it for less than the $349 Apple is asking. I see there is a 4-6 week wait.
