I just wrote the following, then a quick google turned up the answer in this MacRumors thread. (That'll teach me to google last thing stead of first!). Thought I'd post this anyway in case someone had a similar problem. I don't know what the technical problem was, but I unplugged my iPod and everything is fine now...
My menu bar (strip containing clock, battery etc icons in top right-hand corner of screen) keeps crashing. The application-specific menu bar on the top left-hand side of the screen is unaffected. This hasn't happened for at least 2 weeks, and then it happened yesterday. The only way to fix it is by restarting/logging out which is obviously an insane hassle. Info: 1.25GHz PowerBook, 5400RPM, 1GB, Mac OSX 10.3.7, cron scripts + pre-binding + repair permissions up to date, only 3rd-party menu bar item installed is MenuMeters but this problem preceded the installation of that app, Activity monitor shows no hung processes, have had no luck at Apple>Support. Is there some way to kill/restart the process that controls the menu bar? Has anyone else had this problem? Any other ideas? Thanks ... No need to reply! bouncy bouncy |

SOS If it was iPod related perhaps you should send a message to Apple, letting them know about your problem.
