Now I'm guessing this showed up after my Archive and Install I ran from the 10.4.8 upgrade fiasco. Is it safe to kill it off? It's eating 8.5GB of my limited HDD space on the MB. Also, is there a UB version of Disk Inventory that anyone knows about? The one I have on my Mini doesn't work for the MB.
Thanks.

Indeed, Previous Systems is the result of an Archive and Install. Nothing in there is vital to your system's operation. The purpose of the folder is a backup of sorts. It may contain applications, settings, drivers, whatever that didn't carry over to the new, clean system. You should go through it, at least skim it, to check if you missed something. Afterwards, you can get rid of it.

It's essentially the "Archive" part from "Archive and Install". But I guess I'm a bit late.

I didn't really care for the archive at that point, I just wanted to get my system going again. As for the backup, everything is running fine which just made it redundant. I'm more concerned about space on that system. Who'da thought I'd fill a 60GB drive so fast.

From personal experience...it's a whole lot easier than you'd think. My iTunes Library alone takes up around 25GB; combine that with the rest of iLife, iWork, and so on, and that space tends to disappear fast.
