Any time I'm feeling stressed and over-run by negative energy... I turn to the wisdom of a very special individual, a real American hero...

Slick thread, my man. The first post is completely torqued.

This is better than a Carol/poll situation!

I'm just messing with ya...I'm curious to see who this quote is from.

Wooderson from "Dazed and Confused", perhaps?

He's my motivator and comfort. Alright, alright, alright...

The Jelly Doughnut routine (clip 2 in case anyone wonders) has no equal...

I remember seeing that movie years ago. I couldn't stop laughing at some of those scenes and dialogue.

My Dad said it was a pretty dead-on portrayal (he was in Marine Corps boot camp back in the 60's, back before D.I.'s got toned down a bit and neutered in the interest of a non-offensive, politically correct military and all...back when they could - and did - say anything and everything).

The language, the patronizing/scolding manner, the babying tone, finding one or two screw-ups in the group to just latch onto and make miserable, acting like they're "there for you" and your buddy only to turn right around and brutally blister you verbally in front of everyone, overstating everything or making the smallest offenses seems like the end of the world. He said it felt very "Parris Island" to him again, watching that first half of "Full Metal Jacket".

He always said that as long as it was someone else catching the abuse, it was the funniest thing in the world (you're so stressed out and exhausted from the ordeal of boot camp itself, stuff like this is a release...but you're standing there trying to hold your laughter in, which only makes it harder).

Dude I would be toast... there is no way I could refrain from laughing at some of that stuff.

So, pscates, did you hate the movie GI Jane?

Just wondering.

Did you see it at the movie theater, btw?

Because the movie theater version seems to have had at least one scene that was *cough* a bit different from the DVD.

Never saw "GI Jane"...not a huge Demi Moore fan.

I saw "Full Metal Jacket" on HBO or Showtime (my Dad saw it at the theater) years ago. I've seen it several times since (rented it, etc.). But it's been a few years now. Maybe I'll check it out again one evening.

Well, maybe you'll like the film then, because she is *horribly* abused in this movie.

Just rent it, Paul.

I'd like to know your opinion of it.

It's only fair, since her acting "abuses" me in everything I see her in.

Well, not to be a pill...but don't be holding your breath on this one, C. It's honestly about #27,512 on the list of "Movies I Haven't Seen But Am In No Hurry To Either".

But the military people I know best in real life are indeed female, so I assure you I don't have any beefs or issues on that particular front.

I just don't dig Demi Moore all that much.
