I am hoping someone can point me the right way on this one...

I have been trying to email one of the firms I work with in the UK this morning and keep getting the email bounced back because apparently my IP is on the blacklist... So the mail keeps getting counced back.

I know that the firm in the UK would not have done this to me as we work together constantly and have a good relationship...

I understand the reasons behind this but not what to do about it...

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at bla bla bla.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<email@myfriendscompany>:
IP.IP.IP.IPx does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 554 The IP Address of the sender (IP.IP.IP.IPy) was found in a DNS blacklist database and was therefore refused.
Giving up on IP.IP.IP.IPx.
Now I have just sent the email using the same computer but a different email address, so for the short term the problem is solved...

However, I do want to resolve this as it is a pain in the ass!!
If anyone could tell me the best way to go about it I would be mega-grateful.

Cheers,
scratt

Maybe ask a person you work with at that firm to request a network admin to whitelist that specific e-mail?

odds are there was a spammer at your ISP. their range probably got blacklisted. at least, that would be my guess. contact the people in the UK. they likely use a service for filtering spam, and will have to make an exception for you.

Seriously, listen to Eric. You need to get yourself on their whitelist. I remember one month all of Earthlink couldn't send me email because they were blacklisted from SPEWS.

I am familiar with the concepts and reasons / abuses behind this blacklisting thing... But not with actual hard and fast facts / rules / 'regulations' or practices..

Is there any kind of regulation? Or controlling body?

I know that at one point I had huge problems with AOL because someone else using the same servers as me had been hacked and used as a SPAM sending point and was then consequently blacklisted. So anything coming from those servers was blocked by AOL... Boy was it a fight to get anything done about it...

I am assuming this particular ban is just a local one at the Service Provider for the company I am trying to email...

Any background or links so I can read up on this a bit more would really be appreciated..

Thanks LoCash.

Thanks for your blacklist info.....
It would appear that*you are blacklisted on http://dnsstuff.com
and the filter is preventing you from sending me, what*they*consider to be*spam.......same old problem, however we have turned the filter off now so it should be ok.
Had a look and can't see anything taht makes much sense to me..

Any ideas on what I can do to monitor this, or prevent it in future?

Thanks...
