My boss emailed me and asked me this…

Quote:
<name>,
Is this a sign of trouble? When I boot the G5 the Apple Logo comes up
then it turns to noise. (just the logo) then startup continues
normally. No click or noise form the hard drive.
Isn't that a little weird? I personally have no idea what that means, does anyone else?

This looks something like what you are describing, I believe this came from an iMac, is that what your boss is using? I would run the hardware test on the Mac first, but it could be something with the graphics card or maybe logic board. Anyone want to confirm? either way that should not be happening and I would have it checked out sooner than later, might be a good time for a system backup.

Sounds like one of the BootX files is corrupted. That or a video card issue, which seems less likely if everything else is fine.

This is a sign of a need for an Archive & Install of OS X.

Miko, I think he means just the logo is that there is only noise along the logo.

Thanks FFL, I'll let him know.

You have bad capacitors on your logic board and the only way to fix it is to have the logic board replaced. It has happened to me three times so far.

If it is a 1st imac G5 it is fully covered under the extended warranty program.

There is no other way to fix it.

It could be any number of things and ast3r3x's bosses' box sounds like a software problem.
