Hi, I'm the new guy as of Feb 2010.
While looking around I've noticed that several of the members who frequently post joined in May of 2004.
I found myself curious about the history of AN, how it got started, and who was involved.

It started in May of 2004, you are correct. It started as sort of a splinter of AppleInsider over concerns with how the forums were run (among other things, there were TONS of disruptive ads on AI, and I don't use all caps lightly! AN is, of course, gloriously ad-free).

There's a lot more to it than that, but that's sort of the gist of it. It was pretty intense, from what I've gathered, and more than a little acrymonious, though current AIers aren't too rude if we have to reconnect there when AN is down. The AN "vaults" are public, if you really want to do some digging.

AppleNova became the quasi-official forum for ThinkSecret for a time, which is when I joined. Now it is its own independent entity.

You can learn more about one of our early fearless leaders, the Jack of the header bar, on the Tribute page. Thanks for visiting and welcome

Let me be the resident spelling nazi who points out that acrimonious has no 'y' in it.

Understand you're on your iPhone, but what does your current state of arousal have to do with this? Can't you type with a stiffie!??!

Remember, the multi-touch controller can handle eleven simultaneous inputs.

I suppose it's somewhat similar to the guys in Korea using sausages for input on the iPhone when they are wearing gloves..

If it's cold and I'm wearing gloves I find my nose works OK for basic iPhone control, maybe I'll try posting on AN using my nose next time I'm outside...

More importantly, how did you find your way here? Random Google searches or something along that line?

(Oh, and welcome!)

This thread reminds me of the Greg Maddox pitching with a boner story, where he had to call over Mark Grace from first base to "chat" which was really just to give him cover so he could adjust the hard-on in his pants. Grace says to Maddox "dude, you really love to pitch, don't you?"

Dude, you really love your iPhone, don't you?

Humans and laser apes happily coexisted just 6000 years ago!
