Okay this is just nuts, I realize.
Years ago Dad won a prize on a local radio show - a gift certificate for use at a local nursery. He bought several things, including a set of loppers. Loppers are long-handled pruning shears used for cutting through branches. These can cut through branches about an inch and a half in diameter. I have been lopping the SHIT out of stuff in the yard this summer, getting the place up to snuff. The thing I love about these loppers is that you simply twist the handles and pull, to extend them. It's a natural motion - twist, pull, re-twist. Super super fast. A few days ago a big limb fell from a maple in the back yard. Had an entire ecosystem living on the bark - a variety of lichens and critters. I took to it with a bow saw, a double-sided Japanese pull saw, and Dad's trusty loppers. As dusk came crashing down I noticed that the loppers were not working right. I finally held up the blades and realized that something was missing. The flat metal part that the blade pushed against. Overnight I began doing research. These are "anvil loppers" - where the blade crunch the branch down against a flat non-ferrous metal "anvil". They're more powerful than the bypass style loppers, which work like scissors. This evening I sat down and rooted through four yard bags. Found the missing piece in the bottom of the fourth bag. Gah. I will be able to reattach the anvil with a bolt, so I'll be back in business soon. BUT: upon inspection I see that the anvil has been chewed to pieces over the decades. It would be easier to replace the loppers with a new set, but NOBODY sells loppers with this simple twist/lock system. The adjustable ones I'm finding online use a button/click gizmo that will wear out quickly. So I spent an intense 30 minute period of searching for a replacement anvil. The search led me across the world, down through the dark web, over through the Dolly Parton web, and finally into Poland. The company that makes the anvil is named "Greenmill". A company that SELLS the replacement anvil is called "Allegro". Here's where you can buy it: https://allegro.pl/oferta/kowadelko-...or-13115580740 But they don't deliver to the US or the UK - Poland seems to be the only location they ship to!! LOL So I'm almost thinking a better solution would be to buy a block of aluminum and make my own, using a Dremel. Or find a place that prints in aluminum. This is *clearly* a crazy quest I'm pursuing. ... |

Okay yep, I can add it to my German cart but it won't ship to the US.
What a thing. ... |

Heh, I sold chucker an iPod mini a while back and he got screwed in customs IIRC. . What was supposed to be a great deal wasn't so great. Not sure how this would work.

What we need is a SMUGGLER!! 🤣
Amazing how difficult it is to move a tiny piece of aluminum from there to here. ... |

is it flat like this, or is it serrated, like the Amazon link you posted? (All mine are flat, the serrations are for gripping the branch and are not essential.) (Note: these Seymour loppers have twist and extend handles, but are very expensive.)
Anvils for Corona lopper. Also at Amazon, more expensive but potentially free shipping. (Note: Corona anvils use two bolts, so you probably can't adapt them, but maybe you could drill a hole in the right place.) Oops, you probably saw all those and need the specific Greenmail anvil? Check on Garrett Wade. I've bought Anvil Loppers and some other limb trimmers from there. They might have replacement parts. Really nice stuff there.

Y'all are the BEST for even entertaining my post!!
I am strongly considering customizing a Corona anvil, since the material is simply sacrificial anyway. And I will check out Garrett Wade. I even looked at casting my own! But I don't have the time for that side adventure. A friend suggested having someone weld in some aluminum to my existing anvil, then shape it back down into place with a file. In the meantime I need to get a new nut and bolt so I can reattach my existing one. All because I so love the infinitely adjustable handles... ... |

I double aluminum would be up to the task. All those tools use hardened steel for a reason.

The cutting blade is hardened steel - the anvil is aluminum.
Also: for now my problem is solved. I took the anvil to an Ace Hardware and found a bolt, nut, and lock washer that fit. Brought it home and it bolted right up. I noticed the blade was striking at an angle, so I tightened up the primary pivot bolt. It's nearly new now! All I need to do is sharpen the blade. ... |
