It's not out yet so you could call it speculation, but on the other hand Apple has announced it:
Link to screen-shot Personally, I welcome this change. The old one always struck me as looking too much like something for kids to play with. Of course it doesn't feature Mailstamps or any other necessary mods, but it's still an improvement. Wonder what kind of new technology they are referring to? Ajax? |

I'm surprised they preannounced it the way they did... usually with Apple it'd just happen one day - we'd go to .mac webmail and a new interface would await us.
Even stranger that they annouce it weeks ago on .mac and nowhere else, and don't give an ETA on its actual implementation. If it's an ad, then they should be advertising to non-.mac members. If it's a heads-up to users, you'd think they'd be more concrete on the whens and hows. |

How very un-Apple to commit such a vaporwarish deed.
------- "vaporwarish" Can you say that? |

I don't think it's vaporware. They just wanted to keep people whose subscriptions are running out. They hoped that showing off the new interface would get a few people to renew, just like they demoed the MBP before shipping so that people wouldn't go out and buy an HP Core Duo notebook instead. |

I suspect they showed the preview when they did because a huge number of their .mac subscriptions renew in September/October, which is when they first introduced the paying version of .Mac (nee iTools) several years ago. In order to whet subscribers' appatite to renew, they showed the preview roughly around the same time people's renewal notices went around.

Maybe we need to re-think what is "un-Apple" and what isn't. Two years ago, they never would have shown a product before it was finished, let alone one that doesn't have a name. Today? iTV. Yes, that's only one example, but it's a pretty big departure from a previously hard-set rule. |

According to TUAW, the interface is online now. Anybody try it out yet?

Haven't tried it yet aside from just looking at it. Since I'm at home and I have Mai.appl readily on hand. Last edited by Engine Joe : 2006-10-26 at 21:52. |

It's a good idea. I don't use .mac, but it looks nice. Since the yahoo beta works so poorly I'm bit skeptical of a web mail interface that mimics a traditional client, but I would guess that apple would make it work nicely and it's certainly cleaner looking than yahoo's.

I'm in training mode (again) for my junk mail, so there is no junk filtering right now in my webmail UI, and no way to mark stuff as junk for training. Is anyone using it and have junk mail filtering on? Does it syncronize your junk mail info from your client to the web application?

Apple hasn't really changed in this regard. They've always held some projects/products secret while pre-announcing others. Some products are available to ship when announced and some aren't. If one pays attention to more than simply the most recent release, this should be fairly obvious. A similar, short-sided analysis is commonly seen in our characterization of the weather. Someone is always claiming that it's never "this hot" or "this cold" or "this rainy" in some particular month. Well sure, if you only use the previous year or two for comparison. |

i like it except for deleting a message...it is not elegant...if you want to delete a message without opening it you have to put your mouse curser on the blank box next to the paperclip on the line of the message you want to delete. only then will you get an arrow and an X...hit the X and the message disappear...
it was much better with the box you marked...you could click mutliple boxes and then hit delete and get rid of all you spam it one swoop...now i have to search for the freakin x box and delete all these penile enlargement and viagra messages one at a time g crazy is not a rare human condition everything is food if you chew hard enough |

AM I the only one that doesn't hate the Tiger Mail interface?
I prefer it to Panther Mail, to be honest. |

No, you're not alone. I really like Mail.app. I don't get why everybody hates on it so much. I just wish I could get it working with my Exchange server here at school.

I like the new interface so far. I don't normally use the webmail feature since Mail does everything I need. It was really funny though, as I logged into .Mac to check out the new interface I was greeted with the ad telling me it was a sneak peak if I follow the link. I just found that ad funny since it has been released already.

i wish .mac would let you have a calendar that you could sync with outlook and ical w/ reminders, etc. that you could update anywhere and have it work.
