Will current Mac users get an upgrade to Leopard for free or at a discount?

Presumably, the same thing Tiger does: $129.

Apple doesn't do "upgrade" pricing because everybody who's buying it is upgrading, essentially.

Definitely.

I also forgot to mention: If you're elligible for the education discount, the price is only $69 for Tiger.

$69. Hee Hee.

New OS X versions are absolutely worth the price, even if you don't qualify for the education discount.

Oh, definitely. I still hope they keep the current prices for Leopard, cause $69 (hee hee!) sounds pretty good.

speaking of leopard, and i know no one knows the real answer to this. but do you expect it to be announced at MWSF or available for purchase then? The only reason I ask is because I'm holding out on buying a new MacBook Pro for school (which starts in Feb.).

It's already been announced, but they've pretty much said it won't be available in January. They might announce the release date then, but it won't be done then.

It's announced for spring, which probably means it won't be out until at least March. I also don't see them preannouncing it much.

With Panther's release, they did a count-down from the beginning of October until the actual date (24th), IIRC. With Tiger, I don't think they even did that; they just quietly released it on April 29th. Not sure about those, however, but you get the drill.

There's no reason for them to pre-announce it at MWSF, let alone to release it. They should take their time and make it as stable as possible.

The fact that Microsoft has postponed the Windows Vista release several times also points to trying to avoid a release that's terribly unstable.
