Yeah, there are bots that post kitten pictures ; or the Footy Scran which posts neat food, or things like Joe Sondow's Star Trek posting bots. Not to mention there's useful bots reposting weather / traffic updates for cities. It's the use of the tech that can be evil, not the existence of it inherently.

Yep. I worked with a lot of those creators in my job at Twitter since I was one of the tech leads on the API platform.

While I would like one, I know I'm not going to use it much and am more interested out of curiosity of the tech rather than being social. If no one else wants it, I would be open to taking it!

I'd be grateful for one if still available – my request from a couple of months ago hasn't materialized.

I wouldn't say I'm active there at all. However I follow Kieran and 709 now.

I'm not currently too active there, but I really want to even stop looking at Twitter, so I'm making more of an effort this week. There seems to be more of the people I follow on Twitter on Bluesky now, so I'm making an active effort to look there.

Most of my reading is still done on Mastodon, but I'm trying to use Bluesky as well.

No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now.

I stumble-fingered my email address when making my account and swapped 2 letters around. There isn't a way to update email in settings so I thought I really fucked it up and probably wasted a username. I emailed support with my mistake and given that they're probably swamped with much more important things to do I wasn't expecting a reply in the short term, if at all. Well, they fixed it and replied to my email with well-wishes in just a couple of hours.

Color me impressed.

So it goes.

The posting activity at Bluesky has increased immensely the last few days. Probably partly because of Twitter forcefully pushing users away, people who had Bluesky accounts already coming back to it, and probably a bunch of invite codes got pushed out.

Definitely a strong sense that non-tech people are going to go to Bluesky with Mastodon seemingly holding on to a smaller audience.

I like Mastodon overall better, but I do see the appeal of Bluesky, especially to people who never used a third party Twitter client. Bluesky is a clone of Twitter, better or worse.

No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now.

Bluesky is about two orders of magnitude smaller than Mastodon.

Are any of y'all on the same Mastodon instances?

I understand that it doesn't matter, as long as your "villages" are talking to each other.

Just curious.

For now. I think it's going to quickly eclipse Mastodon when signups are opened to everyone.

I joined Mastodon.social when I signed up years ago, but switched over to hosting my own instance earlier this year when I started spending time there and actually posting.

As long as you're on an instance that will allow federating to other instances, you should be good to go.

Mastodon defaults to Mastodon.social when signing up now, so if you just stick there, you would pretty much get any other instances that are available. Mastodon.social blocked some bots earlier this year that I wanted to use, so I just started hosting my own with Masto.host

No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now.

Managing yet another internet thing is NOT on my agenda, but I'm nonetheless curious to know if there are "vanity" instances yet - instances that convey "tech gravitas".

Or be eclipsed by Threads (which in less than 24 hours got two orders of magnitude as many users as Bluesky).

If you mean instances specifically for shitposting, there's plenty.

I didn't realize people were waiting.

I have 6 invites if anyone is still waiting on one or wants to hop on.

Many thanks to T.

I opted not to add any communities.
