I haven't had time to play for a few weeks, now, but I'll be back on soon. I just logged in to empty my pockets, so I am good whenever.

In short, I am okay with whatever happens.

As much as I like our current seed it's probably time for a new one. Good for the soul and all that.

MineAtlas might still work at discovering random seeds. I don't think it's been updated for a while or even if it translates to world-gen in 1.14.

[edit]: It does work, kinda. The landmasses and oceans are right, but the temple/monument/village locations are hit and miss, which doesn't really matter for this I guess. I was spinning through some random seeds looking for lots of water with all biomes somewhat nearby, and this seed was pretty great (and the one I tested): -583555408862410. *Note: the site is pretty wonky... make sure to hit the 'Permalink' button to get the actual seed number (the number displayed tends to stick and doesn't always show the seed being viewed).

[edit2]: This tool shows the region outlines, which is helpful to compare with our trim. -665878804059995005 is a nice, watery weird seed.

So it goes.

What do you think about this? : -723582209204948353 (Current world overlaid)

I like it because it still has ocean access for all the spots: arteggio's western area (truly, that region above all others would bug me if it was encased in land), my eastern saved ocean (~ish, but I can deal with it), Ken's southern bay, and Elysium's Kilimanjaro base. Additionally, it has a huge warm ocean to the NW (coral, most likely), massive snowfields to the W, and a decent smattering of other biomes not too big and not too small.

As far as a publicly viewable seed goes, I'd say it doesn't matter like we thought it did in previous worlds. Heck, it's an asset for our group. If I want to get to a Jungle or whatever I'm not going to bloat the world by flying around looking for one, I'm going to tunnel to it in the Nether.

So it goes.

Speaking of, do we want to trim the Nether and End with this new seed? I think we trimmed it last time (up to 1536? 2048?) but I don't know how much exploration there's been since then.

So it goes.

I'm fine with a new world seed. I haven't done a lot of exploring since my kid has been busy with school, so the outlying areas don't matter too much to me.

As far as the End and Nether are concerned, yeah, pretty much the same. Without my trekin' buddy I don't get out thattaway too often any more.

Local dry-run pruning looks good for the overworld. I'm also happy to go with the new seed suggested above post-upgrade. If nothing else, that saves me a lot of trouble experimenting with seeds and image overlays in roughly the same way. So, thanks for that!

Here's what the current regions for the end and nether look like.

709 (or anyone else), you want to take a stab at marking off some chunks to prune there?

Maybe just keep the center 2x2 regions for both? That preserves the nether hub hallways and the end center island.

BTW, the mapping tool I use (minutor) is currently only compatible with the world format up to 1.13. So, once we migrate to 1.14, I won't be able to generate pictures like this for a while. The project is open source and still relatively actively maintained, though, and I expect it to be updated soon enough in the coming weeks/months.

Hey, I wanna know what that green splotch is in the End, over to the left.

I'd say 2x2 for the Nether, 4x4 for the End. The 20 'exit portal' landings we built around the edge of the donut hole were kind of a pain, so it would be nice to keep them intact.

So it goes.

4x4 for the End would cut off the green splotch, which looks like someone's project?

That's just a little terraforming test I did a while ago. It can get chopped.

Alright, kiddos! It'll be 2x2 for the nether and 4x4 for the end. Easy peasy.

(Now's your chance to mine and stockpile all that soon-to-be-trimmed moon rock and hell stone!)

I'm thinking tonight I'll trim all the things to get our final 1.13 backups size under control. Then maybe tomorrow evening I'll stop the server, trim the regions once more, upgrade to 1.14, run the server command to "optimize" the regions per the format changes, and start it all back up with the new seed.

Aye? Or should we wait any longer?

Server is back up. I'm currently transferring the post-trim backup to my local machine to generate map images to visually verify that things landed where we expected.

Before and after backup sizes because I do love a good trim:
Code:
1.4G Jun 21 22:00 world.20190621.220000.tar.gz 208M Jun 21 22:21 world.20190621.222054.tar.gz
Whew!

If anyone thinks I missed a region, now's your time to speak up! About this time tomorrow (hopefully a bit earlier, though), I'll see about moving us to 1.14 proper.

fwiw, the terraforming project tested about as I thought it would. Dirt doesn't turn to grass, enderman will remove said terraforming like locusts, trees aren't even fun here, water tests say the void is real.

Still, an established base here, in the weirdness, would be fucking amazing.

So it goes.

I'm a little late, but I haven't forgotten! I have some server housekeeping to do first, and then I'll change gears into upgrade mode.

Done.

turtle, in case you like to keep backups of the final versions around, world.20190623.013200.tar.gz was the final 1.13 backup and world.20190623.022333.tar.gz is the first 1.14 backup.

No? It should be the seed you posted…

Oh, crud. I copied the wrong one! I'll re-trim the regions and flip to -72358220920494835 later this afternoon.
