Hi, if anyone knows of a good/cheap scanner for scanning photos...I would only need one every 3 months or so and only need average quality from the scan (so don't want to spend alot of $). I have an eMac with Mac OS X. I looked on cnet and some I found said software not compatible with Mac. Thanks for any help or ideas.

There are many scanners that are compatible with OS X. You really shouldn't believe anything cnet tells you about Macs. Many of the HP scanners work. I believe Canons do too. If they don't come with native OS X drivers, you can use Vuescan. Good luck.

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

Get an Epson - they have excellent Mac-compatible software.

Epson Perfection 3490/3590 should fit the bill.

I have had great experiences with the canon LiDE scanners, they use a new technology which sources the light from 3 LEDs refracted through a prism rather than using a cold cathode. The advantage os this is that there is no warm up time, and it uses very little power, so is power from the USB cable it connects with - it needs no AC Adapter. Their mac software is easy to use, and I have never had a problem. I Have the canon LiDE 20.
The quality is more than adequate, I mostly scan newspaper and magazine documents, but occasionally use it for photos and it is great!

I'd second the Canon LiDE recommendation. I've only had mine (LiDE 60) for a couple of months, but am very, very impressed so far.

Yes, I'd also recommend Canon LiDE (25 in my case). It only cost be about £35 - that's about $65 or something. It works really well, more than adequate for the text and picture scanning I use it for. The OCR software it comes with is a bit rubbish, but I've got Acrobat, so I use that instead.

Canon all the way... small footprint, thin, power via usb, excellent scan quality, plays nice with Acrobat.
