That news article made it sound like this was going to be a revelational experience.

Alas. If only the people in it were as cool as they think they are.

Acting aside, however, the storyline wasn't too bad, and I'm quite impressed with the level of special effects these schmos were able to achieve.

A couple of those ship designs, in particular, were pretty bitchin'.

Yeah, I've never been impressed by these fan films, on a writing/acting level. The FX and all, sure. Good stuff (the sabers, sound effects, spaceships, etc. on some of them are as good as a "real" movie).

But they all are so horribly written and acted. Basically, scenes seem to be written solely to set up a "trailer moment" money shot of some sort (some self-consciously bad-ass pose or line of dialogue that just sticks out and seems forced...no pun intended).

Some dork living out his "Sith wannabe" fantasies fashions a scene where he can look up slowly, glaring into the camera, and activate his six-bladed, double-hilted red lightsaber or something.

And all the Jedis seem to be fat, with mulletts. Or struggling with some really horrible intergalactic acne.

I simply can't buy into them. They seem "made", and not very natural...and I've watched a lot of them over the years.

They get a lot of attention and acclaim, but I think the production value and FX carry most of them (which are often dead-on and impressive).

But...heh...After Effects not make one great, hmmm?

Not much meat to accompany the 'taters, from what I've seen.

Indeed.

I wonder, though, wouldn't all of us be fat if we could move food to our mouths with our minds?

Jedis are like a lot of computer geeks, really. When you can do everything you need to do with your mind and a few subtle wrist gestures, you're not burning too many calories.

I'm downloading the DVD iso torrent, so I'll jump in with my inconsequential opinion when I've got the 3.5 GB downloaded.

6.5% done after an hour. See you in 2006!

Wow, that had horrible acting, relied utterly on special effects to distract you from the lack of plot...

Basically, it fits in perfectly with Eps 1 & 2. Power to the geeks!

And I *love* Zhanna's prosthetic jaw... really makes her look freaky alien, y'know?

My other brain is hung like a horse too.

Wow. We need to invent new synonyms for bad to describe that.

I just forced myself to watch the remainder of it. Such horrible acting...

I dug the effects and all quite a bit (very good), but oh lordy did the acting suck!

I felt like I was watching one of those cheesy sci-fi shows on the WB or something ("Mutant X" or that show where the guy that used to play Hercules is now in outer space on some boneheaded show). Very few things leave a bad taste like badly-acted science fiction (because all the other stuff going on is so outlandish, tough to grasp and otherwordly, the acting/story HAS to serve as some sort of grounding or anchor...and when THAT goes out the window, you wind up with...well, stuff like this).

That's why "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" were so weak...Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and the guy playing the Chancellor/Emperor are the only ones who seemed to have a clue about how to go about their job, this thing called "acting"...and even they sometimes looked embarrassed to be there! And even they kept getting upstaged by dumbass CGI characters, a bowlheaded brat reading cue cards and a wooden babe.

You can have bad acting in a western or drama, and it's merely "bad for bad's sake". In something like this, it makes it downright uncomfortable to watch.

I didn't know Jake Lloyd started an acting school!

No doubt the acting sucked, but not everyone can have the advantages in life that Jake Lloyd has had. You really can't fault them though. Most of these Star Wars fans have limited their acting study to George Lucas screenplays.

I thought for a 20k budget that the special effects were quite amazing. They really paid attention to their green screen work. The character lighting was very natural with the virtual environments. The fight choreography was obviously very well rehearsed.

BTW - The DVD iso download has 5.1 surround. Very cool.

I couldn't even finish watching Revelations. I just couldn't. Once the actors were onscreen I had to quit. Life's too short to support bad acting. Even this post is time better spent than watching that.

Hey Argento... that picture you posted above... don't ever do that again, K?

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Lisa has to get braces and the dentist is showing the virtual simulation of what will happen to Lisa's teeth if they're allowed to continue growing as-is.
