It's here!

But unfortunately with integrated GMA 950. But it has the same CPU as my MBP which is nice.

But I like the black one. Looks more like a business machine.

EDIT:
Just noticed my excessive use of the word "but"

Why is the Black one so much dearer, the only difference seems to be 20Gb HDD more?

Crap. One of the few things I truly hate about some of the other notebooks on the market is the glossy coat on their displays. The glare/reflection is awful and difficult to avoid unless you're in a very dark environment. I really hope Apple has done something to alleviate this issue in its implementation.

Even the picture shows how bad this is:

Eh.

The MacBook is a consumer device. It is NOT a gaming machine. It isn't designed for playing games, and the tasks for which it IS designed integrated graphics work just fine.

The MacBook, like the iBook before it, is designed for people who want to write emails, do research, surf the web, etc., not play games. That's the niche the MacBook occupies, and as much as integrated graphics may suck to those in the know, most people just don't care.

Apple doesn't go off and try to please niche markets like people who want to have a cheap gaming laptop. If you're a serious gamer, the MacBook Pro is a better buy.

That being said, it's interesting that you have to get the upper-end model to get the black version - very sneaky...

The MacBook Pro base model has now jumped to 2GHz. I am still waiting on Apple delivering my 1.83GHz one I ordered last Friday.

What should I do?

They also seem to have made changes to the MacBook Pro order page as I can specify a Matt or Glossy display type which I haven't spotted before.

It does spanning, but now they don't even include the Mini-DVI to VGA cable anymore (it was in the box for the 12" PB). Weird. Everything else looks pretty much as expected, and the Core Duo is rather nice.

Yeah the prices seem a little screwy, the 1099 one is fine, but you don't get much for upgrading.

The wierd thing is... by customising a white macbook to meet the spec of the black one it still works out £100 cheaper!?!?!?!

why-oh-why do you have to pay extra for black? does the paint cost more or something?

Say. Looks like they have implemented that magnetic latch thing:

-Image removed- it was waayyy too big

Otherwise the basic design doesn't appear to have changed that much. It's proabably a tough little bugger. And damn it looks nice in black.

Im extremely tempted to click buy right now, but know I really should wait on some reviews or to see one in the flesh (or wait for the summer educational offer).

The prices though... £643/£773/£884
Thats an amazing amount of computer per £.

"Credit" due where deserved: WR wasn't the first here to notice and post about it. Nor the second. Nor the third...

my question (as a hardware nono) is: would the "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950" be enough to run 'final cut pro' smoothly?
I really don't wanna pay 700-900 dollar more, just for a graphics card...

Indeed they have. It would be nice if you had the same choice on the MacBook. A glossy screen is nice if all you're ever planning to do is work in an indoor environment, but not very good at all if you're going to be working in an area with a lot of glare.

I think FCP would work fine... it's After Effects I'm curious about

It's not intended for FCP. It's the cheap end of the line-up and it has a 13" screen. Looks like you are going to pay $700 more for a GPU.
