there is the hidden desktop folder that spotlight cannot find, i cannot see, nor know where to look for it. it is only seen when trying to save or open something in a app such as pages or mail. it is a folder named desktop and it appears right above the "desktop" icon on the side bar. there are some documents that i have saved in there, now i cannot delete then nor find them to move the appropriate that i want. i would like to know how to delete this lil desktop folder bugger, or where i can find it so i can remove its contents.

thanks
-louie

1. Click its sidebar icon to open the folder.
2. Move the files out of that folder.
3. Navigate up in the hierarchy by doing any of the following:

A. Press command-up arrow OR
B. Switch to column view and scroll left OR
C. Command-click the title/proxy icon in the window and select a parent OR
D. Use the Path button in the Finder window toolbar.

4. Trash the oddball Desktop folder.

Could you post a bigger picture? I can still just fit this forum in my display if I span it across my 2 19" LCD's??!??!

Go download a program called stermachine. It will let you view invis. files. You should then be able to go to your user account and delete the folder.

What happens if you try to save a file to that desktop directory? Does the file go to your real desktop, or someplace else?

a) shrink the screenshot
b) I have the same problem on one of my laptops but have been too lazy to do anything about it. If I get a chance I'll fix it tonight and tell you how I did it.

i delete the files and folders already with the terminal, the problem is the icon is still in the side bar after the directory is gone

So what happens if you try to save a file to that other desktop? Where do they go? That might give you a clue as to where the final bits are hiding that need to be wiped out.

In "~/Library/Preferences/" you should find this file "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist", trash it and logout then log back in again and recreate your sidebar as you like.
