How is Spotlight any different than it was before with Tiger? I am running Leopard right now and I don't notice any difference. Apple says that it will search connected servers now, but I don't see any preference where you can tell it to search for them? To search my Mac, I goto the upper right spotlight icon, and type in what I am looking for - and it finds it locally. If I need to look to connected servers, I pull up a finder window and have to type it in there as well, and make sure the SHARED tab is clicked on...

..which again, is the same thing that I did before with Tiger.

So, what am I over looking?? It seems the exact same as it did before...

Did you look at the Spotlight control panel? It should be in there.

Yes, I see the control panel for prefs, but again it doesn't seem any different to what the prefs were in tiger. I just don't understand what the differences are between the two systems when they act and look the same way, and Apple was making a deal out of how Spotlight made huge advancements...

In the new Spotlight, Top Hits is the default selection....so you can press "enter" to launch the application. In the older Spotlight, it was kind of annoying to have to mouse over to select the Top Hits.

I also notice a speed difference. It is so much faster now.

Actually, in 10.4, you could hold cmd and then hit enter.

I think this is the biggest improvement IMO.

The only things that I don't like now is the "show all" just open a finder window and not a specific window like it used to. So if you got something in "popular", your just one click away, but you want to do an "open with", you can't so you do a "show all". What happened ? The files is now mixed with all the other stuff that aren't as much classified.
