My gf who recently purchased a ibook is having problems with Microsoft Word. Shown below is her email to me explaining the problem.

i have a problem with my microsoft word
When i try to open an existing word file, it opens with the trial version (11.0), which is expired...
So i have to click on it and bring up the info and select "choose to open with" and select the one our friend helped us install (10.0).
to test it, i created a new document using 10.0 saved it... and tried opening it again but it still opens with 11.0
it says 11.0 is set as my default and i was wondering how to change the default to 10.0. Also, I noticed in my applications folder, I have doubles of all the microsoft office programs. 1 version (10.0 & 11.0) each of word, excel, etc. I dragged the trial microsoft office version to the trash, but I am still having the same problem.

If anyone knows what method can be done to correct this, it would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

Right click a work document and press command-I. Next go down to Open With and choose the right version of Word. Then click change all.

Thats should solve the problem.

onlyafterdark:

Thank you for the tip. However, she tried doing this and still has the trial version (11.0) coming up instead of 10.0. She trashed the ms office trial version beforehand. Do you think it didn't work because she hasn't cleared out her trash bin?

Once again, thanks for the help.

That might be it.

How about just deleting everything that is MS Office in her Applications folder and then reinstall the full version. Use spotlight to make sure she has gotten rid of both versions and then empty the trash.
