Not sure if this is the right forum-apologies in advance if not. It was a toss up.
I'm really interested in getting an iPhone. But as I'm deaf, I have no use for voice/calling plans. I know that AT&T offers unlimited data/SMS plans for Crackberries without requiring an attached voice plan. However, the few AT&T places I've been to have all said that as far as they know you need to have a voice plan in order to get the data/SMS plans where iPhones are concerned. I've tried calling AT&T (via relay operator) and e-mailing AT&T to no avail because their system is pretty screwed up. So was wondering if anyone in Applenova is aware of data/SMS plans that exist for an iPhone? Also looking into the G1 phone via T-mobile and trying to find out the same thing. Neither info is readily available on the websites. *sigh* Specialists are people who know more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing. Generalists are people who know less and less about more and more until they know nothing about everything. I'm somewhere in the middle. |

I would maybe have someone call into the main office and ask some people there or maybe even ask some supervisors and see what they can do for you.

See if you can find if any of them do M2M (machine to machine) tariffs. I know orange do (Clickity-Click), because we used them quite a lot in my last job when I was dealing with vehicle trackers.
Edit: This could be a better link... if it ever loads! OK, I have given up keeping this sig up to date. Lets just say I'm the guy that installs every latest version as soon as its available! |

Suavblanc: I know that they did, at one point. I assume that they still do. It's buried on their website, and you'll have to provide a statement from a doctor, but there is a data/SMS only plan. Lemme see if I can find it.
EDIT: Here you go. $40 for iPhone, $50 for iPhone 3G. http://www.wireless.att.com/about/di...for-iphone.jsp and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong |

For anyone's info, just got off the phone with T-mobile and the don't have a data/SMS only plan for the G1 phone and were not sure when such a plan would be instituted.

Really?
I'd expect that they would have one, as they do have such for sidekick and blackberry... |

Yeah, surprised me, too. You'd think with the plan infrastructure in place it wouldn't be a big deal to morph it for the G1. This is one that might require "negotiating" i.e. whining that it's not fair. Heh.

If they had had such a thing when I was looking into whether to get an iPod touch or an iPhone, I would have gone for an iPhone with such a plan. There are many times when I'm out with my Touch and I wish it had cell Internet. I never, ever wish I could make a call on it though.
Ugh. |
