I have recently gotten the beach ball of death on the Mail app. I have repaired permissions, deleted caches, repaired your disk, and even reinstalled mail from the Tiger disk and it still doesn't work. Any other ideas on how to fix this?

you can disable your com.apple.mail.plist file, but you'll have to re-enter all your account information. I'd start by dragging it to the Desktop, so if it doesn't help, you won't have to reenter everything.

worst case scenario is you move your Mail folder from your user Library to your Desktop or whatever, and then import all the mailboxes back in after removing the .plist file also.

have you tried creating a new account in OS X, and setting up a fresh Mail account there?
