He was clearly nervous to be on stage (that's not surprising). What is surprising is that he was unable to just have a normal conversation with another human being.

I can perfectly understand being nervous, but I cannot imagine being so paralysed with fear of being thought an idiot that I would choose to do the very thing that seals my fate as an idiot: take myself deathly seriously, apologise, and walk off. At least laugh at yourself, apologise for being utterly terrified and unable to think of a single word about the TV (and all that would have been required in an emergency was “oh, I think it’s great, can’t wait to see it in shops”). Say you’re used to being behind the camera, that there will be no winging it after all, haha, etc. Yikes.
