Disclaimer: From the results of a design competition at the Royal College of Art.

Dr. Bond, your ambulance is here.

They may also be capable of driving off-road, allowing access to remote areas of the country, and expandable treatment areas providing 360 degree access to the patient.

New designs showing the possible future for the UK's ambulances have been unveiled at the Royal College of Art (RCA), London.

The concepts are the result of a two year project called Healthcare on the 'Move: The Smart Pods Project', funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

A detachable shell allows for x-ray or screening procedures

The ladybird concept - equipped with an expanding treatment tent

... continues ...
The video (not sure if non-UK users will see it or get blocked) includes a walk around the gallery and some animations of various designs in action. Some practical, some 'blue sky'.

I was always impressed by the use of 1st responder Paramedic motorbikes in London... get to the scene faster in traffic, and the saddlebags hold enough kit to stabilize most cases until the full ambulance shows up for transport.

Some of these designs seem quite practical, while a few push the bounds of speed, but the ejector seat medic coming at you like a ninja with a tongue depressor out...

What say you?

All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand.

I really think there is a market for paramedics on mopeds. Especially in a city like Seoul where mopeds are allowed to drive on the sidewalk and basically ignore all traffic rules. In fact, even in American cities you could probably consider them emergency vehicles and exempt them from traffic violations.

I really don't know why we don't have such a service yet.

This is just as silly as the people who imagined everyone would use a jetpack to get to work by the year 2000.

OMFG Avery Brooks! That man is a god.

I take back what I said in the movie thread. In terms of man-crushes, Avery Brooks is #1, THEN George Clooney, and then Denzel Washington.

... this is probably bad... why am I ranking man-crushes?
