Hey guys,
I'm playing with a Clamshell trying to get it to connect to the internet with a generic USB wifi dongle. Using the software that it came with, (ZdWLAN_1211 is the name of it apparently; I've never heard of it), it can connect with the wireless network at my friends house fine, with a great signal strength, but I can't get it to connect to the internet; view any pages in Safari. I'm guessing I have to do something with Network Settings in the System preferences but I can't figure out what exactly. It's a 300Mhz G3 running 10.3.9.

Thanks in advance.

Does the Network pane is System Preferences say your computer is getting an IP address?

Nope, and the network preference pane doesn't list the dongle as a network device.

in the list called show: (in the network pref pane), select Network Port Configurations.

does it show up there?

if not press "new..."

does it list it there?

If Network Preferences can't see the device, will anything outside of the adapter's proprietary software be able to connect? I'm not sure it'll work if Network Preferences doesn't recognize it.

I was thinking the same thing. I gave up and went home. Meh,

Sorta sounds familiar - seems to connect but really not. If using a password to connect to network, put a $ sign in front of the password. A HEX passord, not a simple word type of password.
