This is a post about tactical backpacks.
My old Targus backpack was amazing. Even after years of using it I would discover new zippered pockets and intentional crevices. But every night our freshly saved feral cats would colonize it on the sofa and I stopped using it as much. I picked up a cheap computer backpack by "socko" on Amazon a year or so back, and it's okay, but I don't love it. The old Targus bag would probably be right as rain if I gave it a long soak in vinegar and detergent. But I recently discovered tactical gear. In particular, I am now fascinated with MOLLE gear. This is a webbing system for attaching bits of kit together in a custom arrangement. For a while I was hoping to find a single strap bag, but all of those are too small to carry a 15" laptop. So I'm close to buying a backpack from five one one tactical dot com. Right now I'm trying to decide between black and olive drab. Yesterday I was all "olive drab is the new black" but today I'm all "maybe black is still the new black". One of the fun things with this gear is that they have velcro squares sewn on here and there, and you can add more. Those velcro patches give you a place to add "morale patches". A lot of morale patches are military stuff - a lot of butch shit, in my opinion, misused by shitty political groups. But they also make patches for nerdy stuff, which is my plan. So back to the color, I suppose that black would be less attention getting than olive drab. I could always add MOLLE attachments in other colors? ... |

Personally I'm all for black over olive drab. I've never liked the olive drab color scheme and thankfully never had to wear it. Black is a better fit in most environments IMO. Then again, I just don't like olive drab at all.

Thanks T, that's what I went with.
It'll just be harder for people to make out details of what I'm carrying this way. ... |

I am having an inordinate amount of fun gussying it up with "morale patches" but instead of hyper-masculine patriotic flags and don't-tread-on-me symbology I have geeky patches and stuff.

Nice. I like it. Looks nicer than stickers on the old hard cases.
