Figure it out, no adding new ones until someone comes up with the answer to this one.
On the night our playoff was being held, there were a number of vehicles in the east parking lot of the gym. Half of the white vehicles were neither cars nor buses. There were 8 buses in all, and only 1 of those was yellow. There were 16 other vehicles though, and 6 of those were cars. There were 9 cars that were not yellow or white out of a total of 20 cars. There were as many white buses as there were buses that were not white. Besides cars and buses, of course, there were vans and trucks. How many white vehicles were there? Come waste your time with me |

Something is messed up there, DMB dude.
Of the group "all vehicles", you can split it into buses and non-buses (ie. cars, trucks, vans, etc). There are 8 buses and "16 other vehicles" (non-buses). In the non-bus group, there are only 6 cars. So, how can there be 20 cars? 16 < 20 and 6 != 20. Even if the usage of the word "cars" there is a typo, the number 20 still makes no sense. 8 buses + 16 non-buses = 24 total vehicles. The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. Where did the other Dollar Go?
Three men check into a hotel, the manager charges them $30 for one room with three beds which they share. The men go to their room and settle in, after a few moments the manager realizes his mistake, he over charged the three men, the room rate was only $25. He sends for the bellhop to return the $5 to the three men. On his way to the room the bellhop realizes that he can't split $5 between 3 men so he decides to give each man $1 and pocket the remaining $2 as a tip. The bellman returns the $1 to each man. In the three mens minds they each paid $9 for the room, or a total of $27, include the $2 tip the bellhop kept and that equals $29, what happened to the other dollar? You twist the viewpoint in that question around - from the bellhop's p.o.v. then to the men's p.o.v. - so you are presenting the facts unclearly.
From the bellhop's perspective: men paid $25 ($8.33 each) - he gives them all $1 back ($9.33 each) and pockets $2 himself. Add it up 3 * $9.33 = $28 plus his $2 = $30! From the men's perspective: they simply think the room now costs $27 ($9 each - since they got $1 refund each) and are none the wiser about the bellhop pocketing $2. It may not be mathematically explained - but that is the way I read it in my mind. |

To be concise: The $2 for the bellhop has nothing to do with the original $30 payment.
The room costs $25. The bellhop snuck $2 for himself. $25 + $2 = $27 paid. |

They only payed $27 total in the end, not $29 or $30. There is no missing dollar. $25 for the room itself plus $2 tip that the bellhop stole plus the $3 that was returned to them equals the original $30. NEXT!! If the grandfather and father were both priests, the answer would more likely be two fathers and FOUR sons. Each priest could identify the other individuals as "sons." |

this one's been around the block a few times, so it may be easy.
a father and his son are in a car accident, the father is killed and his son is in serious condition and needs emergency surgery. when the boy is wheeled into the operating room the surgeon exclaims, "i can't operate on my own son"! how is this possible? "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |

a line has formed at the ol' post office. a man is staring with a wild look in his eye at a wanted poster on the wall. the guy next to him in line says, "does this picture have some kind of meaning to you?" the first guy replies, very cryptically, "brothers and sisters: i have none; but this man's father is my father's son." who is the man in the poster relative to the wild man in line? |
