iMac G5, rev A, 1.8 ghz, 1 gb ram, 20" BT running Tiger 10.4.2
After a regular shut down it fails to start. The Apple and the spinning spokes show up, then the system loading graphic which sometimes completes and some times not quite. Then the blue screen comes on and that is the end of the start up effort. It does not make it to the finder. THe mouse works..., and the computer eventually goes to sleep and wakes up to keyboard input. After repeated attempts, i just can't get it to finish the start up. It can start in target mode. A friend of mine reports a similar problem with his but he got his to re-start. this machine is still under warranty. Any ideas? Thanks jaime Last edited by Velauno : 2005-09-11 at 10:07. Good News,
the problem was solved. I started the computer in safe mode by presing the shift key immediately after the start sound and until the spinning spokes graphic showed up. once on the finder i openned the the HD/libraries/startupitems removed the only folder i found. It is called RetroRun. restarted and everything was good again. Does anybody have info on this retrorun file? So thats it Jaime |

You've installed Retrospect, haven't you?

I also had the Blue Screen Stall problem. In my case it was an Aladdin file in the startup folder which was the culprit (probably from a Stuffit install), so I guess it's not only Retrospect which is causing this problem. Thanks for the posting though: last time this happened, I reintalled the OS to fix it and it's a lot easier to trash that startup file.
