I was using Dashboard on my friend's iBook and realized that he didn't have the ripple effect. Now, you may say that isn't an integral part of computing, but many people's opinions differ. My friend, of course, hung his head in shame when I made mention of the missing eye candy. It serves him right for purchasing a sub-par vessel.
So I determined that I would take it upon myself to create a fix. I'm not very good at programming--so that was out of the question. The only thing left to use was sheer ingenuity.

CI hack:
When dragging and dropping widgets in Dashboard, poke the on-screen widget as you drop it in its desired location (note: this only works with LCDs).

I've found that this works with Konfabulator, as well. Some people on the development team have been getting really good results with programs like Adium and Stickies, but they're still in beta testing.

LOL

I assume you mean 'poke it with your finger and make the LCD screw up badly enough to look like a ripple'...

Yeah, okay, that's a bad thing. Don't do it. You'll ruin your screen.

Pure Genius! Works fine here... not just for widgets but for almost anything on the screen.

Dude you should call up Steve Jobs... maybe he can incorporate a poking function into future releases of OS X, and pay you royalties for it.

Hmm...you know, I kept meaning to write in there that it was a joke. I put it in a few different places and deleted it, so of course in the end I forget to have it in there.

I figured it was a joke, but also figured that others reading it might not know that and would screw up their screen.... :/

Don't try this at home, kids.

And just to be anal: there is no such thing as a Mac with Tiger but no CI. All Macs that run Tiger have some sort of CI support, no matter how limited.

Wait... Do I only have to use my finger?

I would assume that any soft, blunt appendage would suffice...

If you have a wireless mouse, you could use that. It might block out most of the effect and ruin the spectacle, but if it's all you have lying around...

Alas, my Mini just won't use this fix. I keep smearing the screen but get no ripple. Guess I should hook up an LCD instead...I see that was listed under system requirements. See I should have looked at the box before trying.

Yes, that's the one. Notice the writing it so small you can barely see it.

Yeah, marketing has never been the company's strong point. :/

Or maybe I should stop thinking most people still use 1024x768.

Great fix!
Now maybe you can come up with a 'shatter' effect for old fashioned CRT's?

Yeah, when I upgraded my screen a little while ago from an old Apple monitor 17" which I used 1024x768, it seemed great, but now that I have a 19" LCD, I use 1280 x 1024 (native res for this display), I had to enlarge my icons, and use the font size changer in Safari.
