Yesterday, my cat yanked out the same key shown in the picture in this thread:
http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?t=10702 The key itself is okay, but the plastic frame that holds it is now mangled, the key sits at a 45-degree angle (instead of flat) and the key must be pressed hard to work. I have a 17" PowerBook that was purchased in July 2004. If anyone knows how to get a new plastic frame for this key, please advise. Thanks very much. |

I don't know if they do keyboard parts for Aluminium G4 Powerbooks, but the iBook scissors might fit. Looking at your picture, I assumed you were after an iBook part.
Since you apparently have an iBook anyway, you could take one from the iBook and check that it fits the PB. |

Actually, the other thread (iBook) is a different guy. We both had the same key break on the same day. I have the 17" PowerBook. Sent an email to the company you recommended; waiting to hear back. I assume it's about a 25-cent part if I can find one.

Well, what I meant was, it's a 2-cent part that I'll pay $5 for, if I'm lucky.
Thanks again. |

Dunno if this helps, but when I received my 15" PB from Apple, the Apple key was on a 40% angle, and it turned out the plastic scissors underneath were broken.
Took it to the AppleCentre and they replaced the key, took all of 10 seconds. jm. |

Thanks for the tip. I'm on the road but have an Apple Store nearby; maybe I should try stopping in there.

Look for someone who has a dead keyboard tibook ibook or something like that and grab the key off that. Even if it didn't match it would be cheap, that or there is the free but slightly illegal way. All i'll say is learn to get the keys off fast and go to the apple store

I have a 17" PowerBook purchased in July 2004. If anyone can confirm/deny that the iBook scissors mentioned in the post by "danielsza" above will fit in my PB, I would appreciate it. Thanks very much.

They probably would they would look weird on a 17" but they would probably fit. At that cheap it's worth it to try it i think

the key is 18mm x 10mm
and the scissor is 18mm x 7mm i hope that helps... since it seems no one know for sure if it does or not. |

Thanks ... Is that for the same exact key as in the picture (the left arrow/home key)?
