I noticed a new (I think?) icon in the menubar of my lock screen on High Sierra 10.13.3.

Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks,
-Paul

Looks like a display preferences thing (for dealing with second screens) but it's not the icon they usually use for that. What happens when you click it?

Screen sharing. I think.

You're sharing your screen through the Messages app. More info.

Okay, this is all very concerning. As far as I know, I have never used screen sharing on this machine. I just checked the sharing pane in system preferences and it isn't even turned on. Messages was open when I took this photo, but even when it is closed the icon is still there. Curiously, it is only present on my lock screen and not on the login screen when changing users.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

I can't click it. Or at least nothing happens when I try.

It is a little weird that it only shows up on the lock screen. You should be able to pull-down and end the user connection, if there is one, but it sounds like there isn't. I'd try turning off Wifi to see what happens when you're not connected to anything.

So it goes.

I’ve recently started seeing this on the lock screen (and only there) as well. Maybe just a bug.
