Thanks.

It took a while to figure out the sphere diameter (Anna and I actually argued about it ) but I'm happy with the result.

Planetary Path complete!

I took every block from the "sun" (the lava ring around the Planetarium) to be 25 million km, then placed distance markers accordingly along the path. Planets are not to scale (obviously ) but it was a fun little project.

So it goes.

**BUMP2016**

Thanks to the Museum getting moved into yet *another* world (holyshitthanksagainbrad) I thought I'd resurrect this thread.

Also because things are happening....

Phase III of the Museum is finally being built, and Brad has popped the exhibit cherry with an explorable Saturn V (the centerpiece of the future rocket garden). Lots more to follow.

So it goes.

Phase III is coming together... and the Planetary Path gets even more incorporated into the Complex.

So, Grey… I was thinking thinking about building a thing out in the ocean in front of the museum complex. It would be mostly flat but with one narrow tall other thing standing in the middle, and it has a pretty large surface area. I'm thinking it would be about this big.

Objections? I could build somewhere else if you like, but I think this would complement those Phase III things. Maybe I should slide farther south closer to the shuttle?

Further south would be better – there's going to be a protrusion out into the ocean there (where the final portal will be) centered with the entrance.

If it's what I think it is I sent you a PM a while back about it... if not, anywhere south of that area is good by me.

So it goes.

Indeed! Sounds good. 👍

edit: Ohhh!! I found that old PM of yours. Didn't realize there was a pic in there. 10-4!

I knew that was what you were building before I ever saw it on the map. It just fits there.

(BTW the map is slightly out of date, but it's close! Last night I had already started construction on the platform, but this afternoon I shifted her south and finished her off.)

Move over, Saturn V. There's a new kid in town.

So, Grey, where should I build her?

I was thinking the same thing!

For symmetry's sake I think WNW of the Saturn V. NNW will have the New Glenn 3-stage to give the underdogs some exhibit time.

So it goes.

A clever individual would build a rocket above that thing as it comes down to land.

Or, maybe it could be exploding as it touches down?

OK, Grey, let's talk museum rocket garden!

So far, on the SE lawn we have:
  • Saturn V
  • SLS Block 2
  • Delta IV Heavy
  • Blue Origin's New Glenn (future!)
  • and now SpaceX's "Heart of Gold" ITS (future!)

That leaves one pad open in your current design. I did start building the Soviet N1 a while ago, but I got frustrated with the weird way Minecraft's fat blocks (didn't) fit into the N1's slick multi-conical design. If you're up for that challenge, though, I think it could make an amazing addition to the collection.

Is that what you have in mind for the final position (directly N of the Saturn V)? Or is there some other rocket design you have in mind?

edit: OH! I totally overlooked the westernmost spot. That's two open positions!

I want to know how you're going to model all 30 of those N1 engines?

Edit: Great documentary called Cosmodrome on Netflix details the N1 engine development, and how they are now being used to lift American rockets.

The N1 is super wonky, but I may try it anyways. If it starts looking goofy then I'll put a Long March 9 there. The smaller, westermost spot is for the Falcon 9 Heavy. I think it'll mirror the Delta IV Heavy nicely.

Hide them? Honestly, I'll probably just ring the edge with cauldrons (maybe anvils?) and call it good.

So it goes.

As much as it's possible with the available blocks, yeah. There's obviously a lot of design acquiescing... like, there's not that much space between the boosters and the body of the Delta IV or the Falcon Heavy, but there is noticeable space, so 1 full meter/block it is.

So it goes.

I did a quick mockup based on the N1's 17 meter width at the base. Thus, this is a 17-block circle with 30 NK-15 engines (or, at least, my MC interpretation of them.

The engines are 9 meters tall. Actual NK-15's are 12 meters, but the upward angle of the first stage might get in the way. The nozzles should be 2 meters wide rather than 1, but there isn't space. The, the center cluster is a bit squished on twos sides, but, hey, It's Minecraft.

Also, there is a minor placement error with one of the engines just above bottom left.

Very nice. I doubt I'll show much more than the bottom of the cauldrons for this, but that's a fun interpretation of the engine... I will definitely be using it for an exhibit piece.

If only we could put hoppers upside-down!

So it goes.

Change of plans... the spot directly N of Saturn V is for her. Better fit for the rest of the garden.

It's a bit weird in a few spots but overall I'm pleased with how it turned out (considering the blocks available).

That looks good from the image. Certainly in a Minecraft kind of way, but not bad at all.
