Google's latest update to Chrome is marking all sites not using SSL as insecure.
Does this mean that it's time to get all the sites that I admin an SSL certificate? I don't know how to do that!!! Isn't that expensive? I will google around on this, but any advice you folks have would be appreciated. ... |

Let's Encrypt
I've used it once, for an OpenVPN service I had to set up. Basically, I just followed a guide, so I don't really understand it fully. But... it get's you your SSL certificate(s) for free, so it's worth investigating. Ugh. |

Yeah, for the most part (there are edge cases like wildcards, extended validation, and code signing), you can just go with Let's Encrypt.

AppleNova uses Let's Encrypt.
The websites I've developed at my previous and current employer also use Let's Encrypt. If you just need a basic cert, it's really hard to beat 'em. It's free, and they have great tools and guides to help get you through the process (and to automate renewals!). The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting. |
