Hello I just compared my Powermac G5 dual 2.7ghz vs my 1.67ghx g4 powerbook with xbench.
http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc...56&doc2=150751 My Powerbook g4 scored 48.4 and my G5 scored 109.32 Now Apple says the MacBook Pro is 4x faster than the 1.67ghz powerbook, does that mean the macbook pro will be faster then my G5? 4x 48.4= 193.6 Almost twice as fast as my G5! Im thinkin of trading my G5, my powerbook, and my 23inch cinema screen in for a Macbook Pro and a 30inch screen. (when the universal pro apps come out) |

Look at the test results on the right side of the page. It's "only" 2x faster with common applications like final cut or garageband... edit: they used beta versions for the test, so I suppose universal binary versions Last edited by TMT : 2006-01-12 at 17:41. |

Your 2.7 GHz G5 will destroy the MacBook at most processor- or memory-intensive tasks, particularly things like encoding video. Even when all apps are universal binaries (which they aren't and probably won't be for a long time), your dual G5 will be significantly faster for most things that take a long time to perform. I think we're all getting a bit carried away here about this new notebook's performance. It's great but it's not a PowerMac.

Notebook CPUs, like moble GPUs are always less powerful than their desktop counter parts, so I would not doubt that your G5 will be faster in real world use.

Well, in that case I will just stick to my 2.7 G5...
I only use the powerbook to show off my video edits, and i do most the work on the G5 anyway. |
