I went to see José González last night. It was a great concert. At various times during the show, he was wearing a mask he made out of a pita. After the show, my friend was able to get the pita mask by asking one of the stage hands. Now, we really want to keep this souvenir for a while, so how would I go about preserving this piece of pita bread? Would just drying it out work? I'm hesitant about varnishing it, or vacuum sealing it. The pita's pretty dry and rigid right now, so it might crack with any pressure.

There are three things that you absolutely must do to preserve it:
1) You must sterilize it. Autoclaving won't work as it will destroy it. 2) You must coat it with some sort of varnish to prevent microbial colonization; you must do this while it is sterile. 3) You must keep it in cool dry place in perpetuity. |

Well, you could try drying it while pressing it to a form, like a mannequin head. Then lacquer the crap out of it, and display it/store it on the head.

I nominate this thread for the "I-didn't-expect-this-when-I-woke-up-this-morning" award.
But hey, at least I'll learn something new today. |

Put it in salt like people used to do in the old days? Would prevent microbial degradation and you would be able to keep it at room temperature. You could freeze it (use dry ice) and that should keep it good for as long as you want.

I should mention that my method allows the pita to be displayed forever.

I love pita bread. And garlic hummus (did I spell that right?).

I've thought a lot about this since my first post. And if you guys were really fans of the artist, you would eat it.
