There have been 70+ quakes ranging from 1.6 on up to 5.5 on the Richter scale today near the CA/NV border - all in the last 18 hours or so.

Big list here

Scientists were predicting at least a 6.4 by September 5th and I've been jokingly telling my friends that I need a good quake to "correct" the ridiculous house prices out here in the Westside of L.A. (I know exactly the neighborhood where I want to buy, but I'm not happy about paying 700K for a 2 bedroom/1 bath).

- waiting for the tsunami!

Better a bunch of smaller pressure releasers than one big one.

Maybe southern California is getting ready to fall into the ocean.

Sorry, I'm in a warped and bitter mood. Didn't mean to suggest I actually *want* southern california to fall into the ocean... just the first thing that comes to mind when there are dozens of quakes in one day there. Too many bad sci-fi movies I guess.

Hi NosferaDrew. My dad used to work at the National Earthquake Information Center. He was a geophysicist.

Hi Carol. Can he tell someone to push a button or something, ya' know, just call up a little temblor to scare a bunch of people out of town (like the Northridge quake did)?
That way house prices will take a nice dive and bring thing back to reality.

Omega and ast3r3x, that's damn funny!

I just hope the guy who made them is raping Nike for big bikkies. Just goes to show that the stuff you make in your spare time can potentially make you a success overnight.

Parkfield got hit pretty hard this morning.

6.0 was the biggest.

More to come? Who knows!

Think that's something... 1400 quakes under Mt. St. Helens in the last week.
One or two a minute

Looks like the USGS are predicting another eruption.
I remember the 'original', 25 years ago. Ash on our house more than 500km away.

So the California / Nevada quakes are related to the volcano, or do you mean they're unrelated but both being caused by the same activity along the Pacific plate?

That is to say that the plates do play a role all the way round the Pacific, and pressure changes in one area tend to have sympathetic or harmonic effects elsewhere in the Chain...

But I'll leave it to the vulcanologists and geologists to connect the fault line dots specifically.
