12" iBook G3 LCD & OS problems

I have a 12" G3 500mhz dual USB iBook that recently quit working. The screen is blue or gray with lines on it. I thought the problem was the logic board but now I'm not sure. When I hook it up to a monitor the question mark folder comes up on the screen. It's been reset a bunch of times and I can't get it to start up with the OS X CD I have. I bought another identical computer with a cracked LCD that is supposed to be otherwise working. It will start up with the OS X CD but if I try to install OS X no destination shows up in the box to choose. I'm trying to decide if either of these computers are worth fixing the LCD on. I bought a new MacBook so I don't really need another computer but it would be nice to have a spare. I have another broken 700mhz G3 iBook that has a bad backlight and doesn't power on at all anymmore. I've taken them all apart multiple times using the excellent tutorial on but they don't show anything about the internals of the LCD screen. I guess my main question is how to check to see if these computers are working properly besides the LCD problems.
Thanks, y-bot
