I'm trying to get my server configured as a gateway but it doesn't seem to be picking up the outside network. When I set (en1) to connect to the cable modem it only gets a self assigned IP address rather than a Cox assigned one. I've rebooted both the computer and the modem more times than I care to count.

Prior to last night I had a router between my modem and a switch for the network. The speeds were horrible though. I'm not sure if it's my modem going though, but I did have a connection. I should be able to get an IP address though. On (en0) I have manually addressed to my network configuration with it's IP listed as the router too. I've run the gateway assistant many times and the same thing happens, I can't get the external IP address.

So I've finally got the Mini online with the USB ethernet device and it's controlling the DHCP for the network via the switches, but it's not letting the internet be shared.

What am I missing? So much for no IT department needed.
