Hi everyone. I've been having problems running downloaded movies on my mac. I have a new 15" PowerBook 1.5, running all of the latest updates. Whenever I try to open up a file downloaded from LimeWire, I get a Quicktime error message, or the video will just not load. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? I'm using LimeWire Pro btw. Thanks so much.

Maybe its a video in a format that Quicktime won't open? What are you trying to open?

1) If you don't give us the error message, we can't help you.

But, that being said, here's what *might* work, assuming that it's simply a matter of the wrong kind of file you're trying to throw at it.

Go to versiontracker.com and download the MacOS X VLC client. It plays many more types of files than QT Player, and deals better with badly encoded files.

I would also suggest MPlayer OS X, googling it should bring it up... that or you could actually get Windows Media Player for OS X, which I do have installed for viewing some online video - like on CNN etc. However I am not too familiar with Real Player for OS X, I was generally dissatisfied with it in the Windows world, so I haven't ventured to DL it.

I find VLC to be the best at playing various formats. I've never encountered a format it wouldn't play... I guess I don't download movies off the 'net often so my sample is small. But it's a good app to have in your arsenal.

I prefer Mplayer over VLC, since I think the interface is a little cleaner, but VLC can play those few files Mplayer can't. Its good to have around.

The only problem I have with VLC is with my G5. It will change the default sound to digital out and screw everything up. A restart fixes it, but it is annoying. No problems on my laptop.

^^ One more quality post from the desk of Ebby. ^^
