Hi, i have an ibook G3 version 10.39..900mhz.. 640mb.
Can i update it to a newer version or my ibook is not good enough for it?.
I want to update it to be able to install win xp in a partition but i read that to use bootcamp i need version 10.43 at least.
If yes, how can I do it manually because I tried software update but I dont see that option.
Thanks

Welcome to AN caraloca

Well, if you wish to run Windows via Boot-camp you need an Intel-Mac. You might be able to run Virtual PC from Microsoft, but it will be slow and useless.

I'd say it's time to get a new Intel-Mac.

To expand on what Mugge said, you can indeed run 10.4.3 on it without any hardware upgrades, but your Mac is PowerPC-based, whereas Boot Camp is only possible with Intel-based Macs.

Yeah, I run 10.4.9 on two Clamshell iBooks (300MHz, 466MHz). It's slower than my G4 Mini, but it is certainly functional. I personally think it's worth the upgrade even though you won't be able to run Intel specific programs (Boot Camp & Parallels specifically).

It should also be mentioned that if you do intend to go this route, then you will need to purchase a retail copy of 10.4.X rather than through software update.

ok, well it does not really matter , it was just because some family members want to have the choice but they can always use the windows home pc and I am not planning to get a better one until we are good enough to use it.
thanks
