Hi,
I film alot of stuff, and put it into iMovie, and then burn it onto DVD's with iDVD. Once it's on a DVD, I delete the Video off of the Computer. Then i can only watch the video on the DVD. It's locked. I can't change anything. I can't put it back into iMovie. I can't even put it back into a quicktime file. I need to put my own dvd's back into iMovie to be able to make changes, (or if I wan't to send something from the dvd to a friend, but not the whole thing). Thanks |

You have to rip the DVDs (like ripping CDs), converting the VOB streams into an editable format.
Software like OpenShiiva or ffmpegX will do the trick. However, it should be noted that there will be a slight loss of quality each time you do this because you'll be ripping to a lossy format (again, like ripping a CD to MP3 or AAC). Plus, it'll just be one whole flattened video itself, not a project with editable clips. If you want to keep an iMovie project in a lossless editable form, you should burn the project folder itself onto a data DVD. Then, you can just copy the whole thing back to your computer at a later date and edit to your heart's content. The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts.
