I would like to use a Java applet to demonstrate something in my lecture in the afternoon. Problem is, the applet doesn't seem to get any mouse events when I run it on my Mac (tried FireFox, Safari, and appletviewer). It works on the PC, though - in JDK 1.5, but the applet is so old it must have been written for 1.2 or something.

Here's the link to the applet. It takes a few seconds to load the data set, but you should be able to rotate the view by clicking and dragging the mouse at any time.

Any ideas what I can do? I don't have access to the source, so I can't debug it (nor do I want to do that).

Edit: Everything's at the latest version, so it's not the 10.3.9 Java problem (unless there is a new one ...)

Works fine here on 10.4 and it's using the same version of Java that's on 10.3.9, I believe.

Brads-Book:~ bradsmith$ java -version
java version "1.4.2_07"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_07-215)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-50, mixed mode)
I'll try to find a 10.3 machine to test it...

That's interesting, I thought Tiger would ship with Java 1.5?!? That's one of the reasons for me for getting it. Any ideas what's up with that?

I think Java 1.5 builds for Tiger are still currently being tested by developers. Brad can probably confirm that.

Correct. It's still in development.

Do you have an idea when 1.5 will be released? And will it be available as a standard update, or do you need to be an ADC member or something? We're developing a rather large piece of software in Java, where we use the new language features quite heavily, and I was hoping that we could release the Mac version along with the rest (at the end of May ...)

Oh, it'll be available as a regular software update, but it'll require 10.4 unless some dramatic changes are made soon.

Yeah, I know about the 10.4 part. I had just hoped that since 10.4 was required, it would be included with it. That's really disappointing
