Just came across an article claiming the new mac pro will be out on the 16th - I don't know how reliable the source is but it's something to get excited about.

Here's hoping for a bit cheaper prices this time.

A lower price would be nice. Right now I'm have a hard time choosing between a entry level Mac Pro or a 27" Core i7 iMac.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/11/i...eview-roundup/

Intel brought out its Gulftown Core i7 chips at GDC, which lends some credence to the rumor that 6-core Mac Pros are going to be announced sooner rather than later. Not that they'll use the i7 version, but the timing is right.

That could be bad news. The last time the Xeon chips were months behind the release of the i7 chips.

I've read a few posts from people (who don't give a source) that there will be no new Mac Pro's next week. Guess we can take both with a grain of salt, new Mac Pro will come, at some point no doubt.

The apple store is offline - maybe it's coming early?

intel has today released the Xeon 5600 series. No big surprise, just passing on the info.

Yeah, but you'd expect the apple store to be offline by now for the update.

They usually update between 8 and 9am EST... sometimes earlier. You think Jobs cares about the 8 hour work day?

Intel has launched the chips. Nothing new on Apple's side yet.

There's always Wednesday. I was hoping to see something on the MacBook Pro front, as my Dad is in the market for one.

I'd be surprised if Apple's MB/MBP sales numbers are up for this past quarter.
A refresh or redesign is way overdue. Those in the know, have been waiting not so patiently for the new i3/i5/i7's.

Yeah, but it's well past time for some new processors. I'm with you on the redesign... but they are certainly due for an upgrade.

A think the design is still fine. I hope they don't change it, otherwise there will be new design issues that will need ironing out. Changing the design now is just changing for the sake of it.

No need for a case redesign, those things are sweet enough already, but maybe the matte screen option will come to the 13 incher? Oh and the single glass multi-touch trackpad for the Air would be nice.

I think one area where I'd like to see the Mac Pro case changed would be those big handles on the bottom, do they really need to be there? I think some nice rubber feet on the bottom would be nicer, and make the tower smaller, and thus lower shipping costs along with box sizes, which would be a win for everyone.

One of the things I like about the handles is the fact that you can use them to lock the tower to the floor to make theft a bit harder. And shipping is free from the apple store on orders over £78 so it shouldn't matter much.

I was talking about from Apple's perspective, in terms of shipping cost. Smaller boxes would also make it easier to store more in a warehouse, and on the delivery truck.

As for locking it to the floor, never really thought about it, but Apple could easily come up with another solution for that, such as having a steel ring on the lower part of the case for locks to be attached.

Raising the Mac Pro off the surface it's on would help with cooling, though, right? It's like the PMG4 Cube.

Does it have holes/vents on the bottom? It just occurred to me that I've never seen the bottom of a G5/Mac Pro tower. Or even the G4 models or G3 Smurf tower either. What do they look like on the bottom? I don't even know.

If they do have holes/vents, they would need to sit an inch or two off the surface...which is what those bottom handles do.

No holes on the bottom. It's the same smooth aluminum as the top.

I would imagine the space still allows the aluminum to dissipate heat better, though...?
