My favorite part of this story is a sidebar describing the origins of the term "Moobs".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7855763.stm
(warning: disturbing images ahead!)

Quote:
MOOBS: THE ETYMOLOGY
Portmanteau word of "man" and "boobs"
First reference in UK newspaper in June 2004
Satirical website manboobs.co.uk domain name registered in January 2003
Term assumed to be of US origin

God bless America that such verbal creativity is just assumed to originate here. Especially when it's the British making the assumption. Makes it all the more powerful a compliment. American made-up words are tHe BESt!¡ Put aside the political correctness and global love for just a moment... stow the idea that somehow we're all equal... because when it comes to inventing words, we are #1.

So you see, everything will be all right. There's no need for this financial panic and pessimism. We'll just make up new words to overcome this hardship. Where there are new words to be had, entire industries can spring up. Like the Moob removal industry in the UK.

Hey! My Grandfather had a moob removed because he had breast cancer. It's not just for 'cosmetic' reasons.

But yeah, we always assume that bastardisation of the Queen's English originates from across the pond. I mean, why would we do such a thing?! It's just not cricket.

Well no disrespect to anyone getting a moob removed for medical reasons. Mostly I see the moob issue as one of poor eating habits for grown men. Can't fault the pubescent teenagers for it or the ill. The spirit of my comments were made for those who eat their way to moobdom.

What i love about this article is the quote

""[Those planning surgery] described feelings of shame, anxiety and embarrassment. They had suffered everything from being shouted at from a bus"

How big are your moobs that people can see them under your clothing from a moving bus!!

Between this and the cello-scrotum thread, I have to say I'm a bit concerned about the direction of your net surfing lately, Moogs.

40 is the new 25. Don't worry about it too much.

So it goes.

Hey, BBC had both articles linked on their front page. It's like a train wreck of humanity... how am I supposed to ignore such things? Actually the Cello Scrotum thing was a hoax (for those who couldn't bare to look at the thread)... some doctor made it up as a gag in the 70s after hearing about the "guitar nipple" syndrome, which I guess referred to women who had a sore boob after playing guitar for extended periods of time?

Do you think guitar nipple would be a legitimate reason for moob reduction?

Only if the nipple is attached to a giant moob.

Spoiler (click to toggle):

Bob for example... he could've used a good moob reduction before project mayhem claimed his life.
