What ever happened to the Microsoft Anti-virus of years ago. I remember when they rolled it out. They offered a free one year subscription to the service. I used for a week and went back to Norton. I never have heard anything about it since then. Any clues on where and why it went away?

No, but I'd suggest avast.com for your virus protection. It seems to work really well, and it's free for personal use.

There's also AVG Free Edition, from Grisoft. I've had no problems with it in the couple of years I've been using it; I even used it to clear out a ridiculously trojan and worm-infested PC for one of the people I work with.

I seem to remember that MS was working on eventually adding AV protection to Windows Defender a while back; not sure what happened to that, but it might be something worth looking at.

I'm fairly certain Microsoft has not offered an antivirus program for Macs. Perhaps you are thinking of McAfee?

I figured he was talking about a Windows version. It kinda counts as a third-party product... (probably better suited for General Discussion, but it's not exactly my call.)

Yes, it was a windows based anti-virus. Sorry for the wrong discussion group.
