Hello,
This is my first time posting so apologies in advance if I posted this in the wrong forum...Anyway, I need help pricing a used Powermac G5. These are its specs: Dual 2.0 GHz 160Gb SATA 2.5Gb RAM (2X256Mb, 2X1Gb, 8 Dimm slots total) Pioneer DVR-117D SuperDrive GeForce 5200 FX Graphics Card Apple Care ProtectionWhat would this thing go for, friends? I think it may be advisable to sell the display seperately. Those who buy Powermacs usually have a monitor already, so lumping one on someone isn't the best thing to do.

gusmore must have edited his post to remove whatever display he had listed, but I should point out that if you buy a display at the same time as a Power Mac and you get AppleCare, it'll cover both the computer AND the display. It might be worth it to sell the display along with the Power Mac if both are covered under the same AppleCare plan.

Sorry, I deleted the monitor details from my original post...it wasn't an Apple Display, but a cheap Acer AL1715 from newegg.com so the AppleCare won't cover it anyway.

Oh, okay. I have the same display myself. Decent, but not worthy of a Power Mac G5!
As for the machine... well, I'm not really up on Power Mac prices lately. Have you checked eBay's completed items listings? That's probably the best way to figure out a reasonable price. FYI, Apple's selling a refurbished dual-core 2 GHz (512 MB, 160 GB, 16x DVD-R, GeForce 6600LE, PCIe) for $1699. Yours has a lot more RAM and AppleCare, but it's older and the graphics card is weaker and lacks dual-link DVI (so no 30" display without upgrading). I'd say it's probably worth about the same as the refurb. If you're selling it on eBay, you can try for a larger amount than if you're selling it privately. |

I know the monitor's not worthy, but I originally bought it for data analysis so I couldn't justify a sexy monitor & graphics card upgrade.
That price is around what the computer lab proctor at school thinks it could go for. I'll probably sell it locally via craigslist rather than eBay. |
