fallout 3...level 19...almost done with the main story so now i'm just running around killing things and people and stuff and basically putting off finishing the game till i've explored the whole map...damn this game is huge

g

next games will likely be: world of goo, LBP, Dead Space

but it might be a while...i'm a maniac depressive gamer...so i will play hard for a day or two, then forget i have a system for a week or two, then game again...i have no flow

I just finished COD4, and I loved it! So much variety while still being a shooter. Outstanding.

I've put something like 100 hours into COD4 (across my PS3 and 360) and I've played maybe 2 hours of the mission. It could be MP only for all I care. It's a great game. I've got Gears 2 but I haven't done anything but a couple of the tutorials. I'm splitting time between Mirror's Edge, COD4, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 in addition Braid, of course.

My wife has bought me Left 4 Dead, Star Wars Force Unleashed (we're big star wars fans) and Prince of Persia for Xmas so I've got lots of gaming to do.

Anyone up for some Left 4 Dead next week? I hear it's a blast with people you know.

Anybody download Sim City for the iPhone/iPod touch yet? I'm thinking about getting it so I have something to do on the plane on the way to Macworld.

Just been playing Resistance 2. Much much better than the original. I think the PS3 would be in a far worse position than it is just now if it weren't for Insomniac.

I just started Fable 2. So far, aside from the improved graphics, it seems pretty much exactly the same as Fable 1....

I really need to get Xbox live so I can play COD4 and Halo 3 online....

My main game lately has been Fallout 3. I do feel like I've been playing forever but not getting too far. I probably have between 20-30 realtime hours in and I'm only level 9. I also feel like I spend too much time doing the 'administrative' stuff like gathering everything up then making multiple trips to sell it all off.

I love it. The art is spectacular, the story is classic PoP and it's just like you'd expect for a real PoP game. The criticisms I've read are about its level of difficulty and it's not "hard" in the typical sense but having to restart a wall-scale or boss fight is pretty punishing. It's an enjoyable experience.

I've restarted playing GTA 4 for the trophies. But I'm probably going to spend more time on Uncharted. I might pick up Little Big Planet or Prince of Persia tomorrow as I have some Game Stop credit burning a hole in my pocket.

Still into Company of Heroes, as long as someone is online who I can play with. I'm also playing on the Xbox a little, but not too much. Mostly multiplayer Halo 3 at a friend's house.

The new thing for me is Facebook word games. Scramble and WordTwist especially. The problem is, I love WordTwist, but you can only play it with people on your friend list. Conversely, Scramble has live rooms, but I have a love/hate relationship with it because it uses the official Scrabble dictionary (aka the stupidest dictionary in the entire world). It's amazing how many proper names, abbreviations, and foreign words they have in there for a game that supposedly doesn't allow any of those things. For instance, did you know that "ATT" is a word? Yep, it means American Telephone & Telegraph, or AT&T. How that isn't both an abbreviation AND a proper name at the same time, I have no idea. But I'm stuck at a skill level where I just barely make it into an expert room, and everyone else seems to know all these retarded 3-letter words.

Okay, rant over. Scramble is still fun but it is frustrating always coming in 50th place or something. WordTwist is fun but I'm limited in how much I can play it.

Jeanne d'Arc and PoPoLoCrois, both on my shiny new PSP-3001. I love it, but it shows fingerprints like crazy!

Jeanne d'Arc is typical Level-5 awesomeness.* It's hard to find in stores but I think you can download it from the PlayStation Shop now. It's an excellent, excellent SRPG. PoPoLoCrois is, to be honest, just about average, but I love it because it is so cute. <3

*Seriously, has that studio ever made a bad game? Professor Layton was my favorite game of 2008, Rogue Galaxy was one of my top picks in '07, Dragon Quest VIII is already properly enshrined in history, and Dragon Quest IX is already practically the best-selling game ever. (Srsly: DQ + DS + Japan = Asplode.) I can't wait for White Knight Chronicles, which looks to be one of the PS3's first big original RPGs. Oh, and that DS game they're making with Miyazaki. Oh, and the other two Layton installments. Oh, and...

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

My dad gave me Oblivion for Christmas. I'm also planning on starting KotOR 2, but I've heard it isn't as good; can anyone confirm or deny?

KotOR2 is good, but the ending is HORRIBLE. The game was a fun play but don't expect much out of it.

I just got Need for Speed Underground today. Put in about two or three hours this afternoon. But I think I am gonna take it back, the graphics are slow and choppy.

OK, I have given up keeping this sig up to date. Lets just say I'm the guy that installs every latest version as soon as its available!

I am at level 20, have been playing for almost two months (two hours or so per day), and have almost completely explored the map -- right now I am attempting to collect the remaining bobbleheads just for kicks and finishing off the remaining non-storyline missions... I have two missions to go in that regard... It's good because I need for this game not to consume my evenings any longer...

Wait... what did you get this for? Running it in Boot Camp or do you have a GameCube/PS2/Xbox you're playing it on?

I'd say NFS Underground 2 or NFS Most Wanted are both better than the first Underground game, but all of them should run perfectly on your computer. Unless you're trying to run the game in Parallels instead of rebooting into Windows, I guess, but Parallels isn't meant for gaming.

EDIT: Or maybe you meant NFS Undercover? That's the new one that just came out. And I wouldn't be surprised - unless you're also running an upgraded video card, the Radeon 2600XT that comes with the Mac Pro will not be able to handle the newest NFS games. NFS ProStreet had trouble running on my machine, which has a much better video card than that. They're really poorly coded games. I guess that's EA for you.

No you are correct, I meant Undercover. And it was for my PS3, so I expected it to be as smooth as silk. I completed NFS Most Wanted and Burnout Revenge when I had my 360. I was looking forward to an arcade style driving game. But every now and then, it would freeze for a fraction of a second, maybe dropping a couple of frames!

I was gonna say it would probably have played better on my PM with my 8800GT, but for it to have been choppy on the PS3 suggests that the game has just been badly written.

I took it back earlier and got a refund no questions asked. Which is actually a little unusual - normally you can't return the games unless the actual media is faulty in which case they just replace with another copy of the same game. So maybe I am not the first to return it.

It's too bad... the NFS series has really fallen off the wagon lately. Most Wanted was probably the high point, and even Carbon was somewhat okay, but the last two installments have been crap.

If you still want an arcade racer, I'd recommend Burnout Paradise or Midnight Club LA.

Has games being poorly coded like that been happening more frequently recently (i.e. the past 2 years) or is it just me? Is there some grand conspiracy between game and video card makers?

It seems like a lot of new games that don't look much better than ones from a year ago don't run nearly as nicely... probably just laziness. I'm playing Mass Effect, and I have to crank down the settings to get a decent frame rate, while COD4 runs quite nicely at medium settings. Those bastards in Alberta are just out to screw me, I'm sure .

I think the problem with more modern games is starting to be the physics. Both nVidia and ATI have aquired physics specialists (ageia's physX and Havok respectively).

I've been trying to play Tomb Raider Underworld on Wii, but the game is crap. Buggy controls, a nightmare of a camera, and crashes. The locations are rather dull (although the Thailand temple area is quite well done). It seems a neutered version of the PS3 game with PS2 graphics and no QA.

It's a shame because the Wii version of Anniversary was much better.

Also been playing Pro Evo 2008 on Wii which is very interesting, and Disaster: Day of Crisis which is a lot of fun. I picked up both in the sales, Pro Evo was only a tenner!

I just ordered Little Big Planet.

I remember reading some people on here talking about it, but what does everyone think? I've heard good things about it and I just wanted to see what you guys on here thought.

( I also got Ratatouille and Wall-E on Blu Ray, so I'm excited to actually put my PS3 to use. All it does now is fold 24-7 )

No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now.

Just finished Valkyria Chronicles, which I would strongly recommend to anyone with a PS3 and an interest in Japenese strategy RPGs. It was a really fun and beautiful game, that has totally slipped under the radar because of Sega's poor marketing and untimely release around all sorts of other big name fall releases. I mean, what the fuck, they advertise the hell out of their next shitty Sonic the Hedgehog game but leave this [VC] out to dry?

Anyway, just got Mass Effect yesterday and I'm already sucked into the vortex that is that game--thankfully we're supposed to have shit weather the next couple days so I have a reason to completely immerse myself in it.
